OUR PROGRAMS

Reading is FUNdamental Free Book Fairs

Book Drive for Kids partners with community organizations, most often Title One schools that enroll 70% or more economically or physically disadvantaged children. We bring a free bookfair to their site at no charge to the organization or the participants. Each child selects, without adult intervention, the book(s) and oftentimes other educational print materials. A short presentation about book ownership, selecting a book at the appropriate reading level, and book genres is given. As the children exit the bookfair, they inscribe their names on specially designed bookplates further reinforcing the concept of book ownership. For many children, it is the first book they can call their own.   If your organization may qualify for this event, please complete the Request a Donation form on our website.

Fill-A-Shelf Initiative

Because access to print literature is an obstacle to fluent reading, Book Drive for Kids is committed to providing new and used books for classroom and school libraries.  Oftentimes, the only books or time available to read is at school. Our desire is that these libraries would offer a variety of engaging books that inspire, inform, and offer hope. If your organization might qualify for classroom library donations, please complete the Request a Donation form on our website.

Soaring Summer Readers program

In response to the typical summer slide in reading skill, as well as the lost learning from the COVID pandemic, Book Drive for Kids created the Soaring Summer Reader Program. This program offers collections of 6 or 10 books, curated to correlate with interests and TEKS requirements of children at grades Pre-K through 2nd grade. The Student Enrichment Guide offers links to Read-Alouds, discussion questions, and projects that deepen learning and encourage parental engagement. Children take these kits home for the summer. They may be purchased with Title One, Part A and ESSER funds.

This program is available for Title One students at non-Title One schools and Title One schools. Contact [email protected] for more information.
